  • CITES AND REGULATORY FRAMEWORKS

  • PERNAMBUCO AND ITS LISTING STATUS

  • RECENT REGULATORY DEVELOPMENTS

  • QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Most musicians use wooden instruments on a daily basis, whether for professional purposes or as a hobby. The trees used come from wild-growing stocks.

Clearly, environmental protection now requires us to pay particular attention to the impact of harvesting these species from the wild.

Following the listing of Brazilian rosewood (Dalbergia nigra) in CITES Appendix I, pernambuco, Madagascan ebony species, all rosewoods, and mahoganies from Latin America and Africa have been included in CITES Appendix II.

For bows, the requirements arising from the new regulations governing their trade, which came into force on 5 March 2026, are now an unavoidable reality that every musician, violin maker and bow maker must understand and comply with.
